2026 UPDATE: Thank you, visitor, for finding your way to this site. As you may know, Mitchell was lost to the world, suddenly and unexpectedly, in July of 2024. He is dearly missed by family and friends. Something that not been lost - and in fact something that has been rebuilt entirely - is this, his website: his photography, his work, his musings about the world. Please take a moment to explore what has been preserved here and what made Mitchell who he is.
With the site rebuilt, there will be opportunity to create posts; if you find yourself doing something in the spirit of what Mitchell was about, something that made you think of him, or just had thoughts or feelings you’d like to write about and express, feel free to reach out. May this site serve not only as a marker of what once was - but also as a marker of what can be.
Mitchell Austin is a Marine Corps Veteran, having served as a combat photographer during his service stationed in Japan.
Mitchell's journey into photography began in his youth, revealing a constant eagerness to wield a camera. It wasn't until college that he honed his skills through professional classes. After graduating from culinary school, he relocated to Austin, Texas, initially working as a chef and later transitioning to a role as a food photographer.
During his leisure time in Japan, Mitchell dedicated himself to exploring various cities along the coast, documenting the people and the captivating beauty of Japan.
His debut book, titled "Perspective," comprises the four years he spent in Japan, capturing its sights through his interpretation.
