ALASKA

I just wanted to say that if you plan on going out into the wordlessness to capture a photo of a bear, you better get it and get it once.

Back in May, I went to Alaska for a business trip, and one of my goals was to get photos of mountains and bears. Mountains were the easy part. No matter where you looked, there were mountains everywhere in Anchorage where you could take as many photos to your heart's content. For the bear, that was going to be a challenge.

I got in touch with some old friends in Anchorage who invited me to go hiking during Memorial Day weekend. We went up north to a lake which is popular in that area. I didn't have high hopes that I would find a bear, thanks to my friends who told me that since they have been in Alaska they haven't seen any bears at all.

The funny thing is, we found a bear in less than 30 minutes. The cub was around the corner of the trail about 25 feet away from us eating something in the forest. We didn't want to overstay our welcome in the area even though we were on a busy trail, plus our backup plan just in case the worst happened. I captured what I could get before the bear got spooked and ran away.

Honestly, I was very lucky. I shouldn't have been that close to it. If something bad did happen, I for sure wouldn't have enough time to react quickly. I was thinking I would find one on the other side of the lake or something like that.

The images weren't that great because of all the foliage, but with the amount of time I had, I think I did an okay job with what I got.

Next time I would like to be farther away.
